For the second straight year, the South Winneshiek boys’ track and field team has earned the right to be called Upper Iowa Conference champs. The Warrior girls’ T&F team also had a strong showing at Thursday’s conference meet in Postville as they won an event and took runner-up honors in three others.

Both Warrior golf teams picked up wins over Turkey Valley on Tuesday afternoon (May 3) in Calmar as the South Winn boys got win No. 4 of the season and the girls notched their fifth victory of 2022.

West Central was in action Monday (May 2) at the South Winneshiek Invitational in Calmar. The Blue Devil boys took fourth, while the girls’ squad was seventh.

The WC boys were led by Charlie Sieck in the distance events as he captured first place in both the 1600-meter run (4:58.39) and 3200-meter run (10:58.25).

Both the TigerHawk boys’ and girls’ track and field teams finished as runners-up at the 2022 Upper Iowa Conference Meet, which was held Thursday afternoon in Postville.

“We had a lot of personal and season bests come out of this meet for our kids,” said coach Micah Ruroden after the strong performance. “It’s amazing what can happen when the weather cooperates. The kids competed well overall and it was great to see their competitive spirit come alive as a team!”

The NFV golf teams hosted Central, South Winneshiek, and Waukon at Pleasant Valley Sports Club on Thursday. The TigerHawk boys shot a 177 to take first, while the North Fayette Valley girls finished with a 244 to take second on Senior Night.

The No. 6-ranked NFV boys’ soccer team kept its spectacular season rolling last week with a pair of big wins to improve to 9-1 in 2022.

On Monday, the TigerHawks were on the road for a rematch with Postville. After defeating the Pirates in the final seconds just a few weeks earlier, NFV again took it to the wire by scoring the game-winning goal with just 11 seconds left on the clock.

On Tuesday afternoon, April 26, the South Winn boys’ track and field team competed at the Osage Invite. The Warriors claimed fourth place with a 61-point team effort, which was sparked by senior Isaiah Kruckman’s first place finishes in the 1600- and 3200-meter run races.
