The TigerHawk softball team went 2-2 last week, losing both games of a doubleheader to Clayton Ridge and then sweeping South Winneshiek in a two-day doubleheader.

The West Union Chamber/Main Street is excited to host a variety of talented musicians as the “Playin’ on the Plaza” summer concert series resumes at the down-town Civic Plaza on the Courthouse Square in West Union on Thursdays from July 8 through Aug. 26 from 6 – 7:30 p.m.

The audience is remindered to bring their own lawn chairs and/or blankets or sit on the concrete benches while enjoying the music. Brats, hot dogs, and drinks will be served to help pay for each week’s entertainment.

Smile for the camera. The speed cameras are in place and will soon be functional. Final wiring is being installed at this time. This camera is set up on Highway 150 on the south side of town. The following is a round up of area Fourth of July events.

Clermont

Skip-A-Way Resort and Campground will be having a Sip and Shop Craft and Vendor Show on Saturday, July 3, followed by fireworks over the lake at dusk and live music by the band Lonesome Road, 9 p.m., to 1 a.m.

Festina

This weekend, Festina will be the place to be on Independence Day as the town will host several activities on Sunday, July 4.

The Moo Mobile will be on hand from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. near the Parish Center. At 10:30 a.m., a parade will be held through town. Following the parade, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., a chicken dinner fried by Mike Reicks will be served via drive-thru at the Parish Center.

To cap off the day, a fireworks display will be held after dusk.

It was another great week for the South Winneshiek baseball team as it went 4-1.

Edgewood-Colesburg

The week began Tuesday evening, June 15, with a home matchup against Edgewood-Colesburg.

“We took the lead early with two runs in the first inning and never looked back,” said coach Alex Smith. “We capped off the win with a six-run fifth inning to secure the 10-run rule victory.”

The Warrior softball team had a tough stretch of games last week, going 1-3 overall – including 1-1 in Upper Iowa Conference play.

Clayton Ridge DH

The first pitch of the week came on Monday, June 14, in a doubleheader against Clayton Ridge. The Eagles were able to grab the game one win by a score of 3-2, but the Warriors fired back to win 10-0 in game two.
