It was a strong week for the TigerHawk female golfers as the team earned a pair of wins in its final week of the 2021 regular season.

North Fayette Valley got the week started Monday (May 3) against Clayton Ridge, winning by a score of 232-239 at Pleasant Valley.

The TigerHawk boys’ golf team took care of business last week, going 3-0 in dual action and picking up an Upper Iowa Conference title on Monday in Calmar.

The week began Monday (May 3) at Pleasant Valley Sports Club as NFV hosted Clayton Ridge.

“I always knew I would work with geriatric patients,” said Josie (Einwalter) Zuercher, the newest administrator at The Good Samaritan Society of West Union.  

“They have the best stories,” Zuercher continued with a smile.  “Maybe I’m just an old soul!” 

Originally from Fort Atkinson, Zuercher recently returned to the area with her husband, Ethan, as she took her leadership position at the local institution.

National Hospital Week, May 9-15, is an opportunity to highlight our hospitals, health systems and health care workers.

One of the aspects of local health care that people might not think about or realize is its impact on the local economy.

Director, Operations and Information Services for the Iowa Hospital Association Clara Stults recently charted the economic impact of the health sector for each county in Iowa.

Clarian Thelma (Thompson) Gunderson, 91, of Postville, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Stoney Brook Village in West Union. Clarian was born March 13, 1930 in rural Clermont to Henry T. and Anna Marie (Lubke) Thompson. She was baptized at West Clermont Lutheran Church on July 20, 1930 which marked the beginning of her strong relationship with God. This continued with her confirmation at the Frankville Presbyterian church in 1945. 

Clarian attended rural schools in Allamakee and Winneshiek counties and graduated from Postville High School in 1947. After graduating, she worked as a secretary at the Postville Community School and was later employed at the Postville State Bank. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Dean Gunderson on August 12, 1951 at Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. Together they raised five children.
