West Union's 1st Farm Toy Show

Where you find farm toys you’ll usually find discussions about the merits of the actual equipment pieces when they were being used. Many of those discussions will be taking place, like the one here, at the Northeast Iowa Diecast Toy Show this Saturday at the West Union Event Center.

75 years of sparkling service

When Jill Heins was growing up, one of her favorite things to do was admire the sparkling jewelry at her grandfather Mark’s St. Lucas jewelry store.  Now, 75 years later, Heins is running the show while her own daughter, six-year-old Lynston, finds the same joy in admiring the jewelry.

“It’s exciting,” beamed Jill Heins, owner and operator of Marks Jewelry in St. Lucas.  “It means a lot that we have been a part of the community and the surrounding areas for 75 years, and we are looking forward to many more!”

When Jill’s grandfather, Mark Mihm, had a dream of opening the jewelry store in his hometown of St. Lucas in 1946, it is clear he knew that the small-town atmosphere would be valuable for the local business.

“We have grown with families,” Jill smiled.  “I’ve watched little girls grow up. From receiving their first communion jewelry, to birth stones jewelry, to engagement rings, to mothers rings,” she said.  “The meaning, and the jewelry is always timeless, and valuable.”
